PHOTOGRAPHER

Photographer website: a portfolio that sorts itself

For a photographer the website is the portfolio. A social feed shows your work but refuses to organize it: a couple looking for a wedding photographer should not have to scroll past six months of product shoots to find one frame that matters to them. A site splits the categories, keeps your strongest work at the top and puts a starting price next to it.

What a photographer's website needs

✓

Galleries split by category: weddings, portraits, products, events

✓

Packages, or at least a starting price — "contact for pricing" loses more inquiries than it protects

✓

An about page that says what your style is and how a shoot actually runs

✓

Testimonials with real names and the type of shoot

✓

An inquiry form that asks for the date first, so you can answer in one line

✓

Delivery terms: how many edited images, how long they take, what license the client gets

✓

Where you are based and how far you travel

Frequently asked

Will full-resolution photos make the site slow?

They would, so the site does not serve them. Uploads are resized to web dimensions and converted to a modern format automatically, which is the single biggest factor in how fast a portfolio feels on a phone.

How many photos can I put up?

There is no practical limit, but the limit you should impose on yourself is real. A tight edit of twenty frames books more work than two hundred of everything you have ever shot; the weakest image in a gallery is the one that sets the price a client expects to pay.

Is my copyright protected?

The photos stay yours. Measures like disabling right-click are a deterrent, not protection — anyone determined can screenshot a page. If you want visible watermarks on the gallery, ask for them in the chat.

Do I need a blog on top of the portfolio?

It helps more than it sounds like it should. Search traffic in this trade comes from specific phrasings — a venue name, a city, a shoot type — and a portfolio page rarely contains those words. A handful of posts about real shoots covers them.
